Due to some confusion of the OMRA going to AMA's class naming convention (AA, A, B & C), and to make things clearer for the riders, the OMRA has changed the class definitions to the following starting 2009:

AA remains the same
A is now Expert
B is now Amateur
C is now Beginner

Why did we do it? Here is an example: Fred rides in the 200C Class as number 5. That class suffix is designated as "B", which would make him run the number 5B. But wait, he's in the C class, so during signup he signs up as 5B in the C Class, however the signup person could accidentally sign him up as 5B in the 'B' Class.

As you can see from that one example, it has caused some occasional confusion and grief at some events, so after much thought and rider requests, we went to Expert Class, Amateur Class and Beginner Class. AA remains the same.

We feel comfortable that this will make things smoother at signup, plus easier to reference. We will begin changing all documentation to reflect this change. Please spread the word.
regards,
OMRA

Now I assume , of course, that we will still follow through with the number plate background colors as set before.

I'm asking more than stating the colors. I'm I right?
AA-Red with white
Expert-Blue with white
Amatuers- Yellow with black
Novice(Beginners)- White with black
Does the color of the numbers matter?
So all B(amatuers) classes, 30,40,50 will run with a B and yellow plates?
Thank you in advance
Darin

AA - red w/ white
Amatuer - yellow w/ black
Beginner - white w/ black

So yes, all the Amatuer classes will run yellow plates w/ black numbers. Class letter designations will stay the same as they are now. (A for Open, D for 30, F for 40, etc).

So for example, if you were to run 40 Amatuer next year, you would have a yellow background w/ black numbers, that reads "35F".

Thanks Kevin.

Nic: Kevin is correct and yes, Expert Class will run blue backgrounds with white numbers.
-Tom
PS: it's spelled 'Amateur'. Probably some Frenchie word. Wink

would'nt it be even more simple if it were just:

letter X - for expert

letter A - for amateur

letter B - for beginner

In that scenario, you would not know if someone was in your class or not as you were racing an event. The letter suffixes are so you know whether to take the risk to race a fellow competitor or not. If they're not in your class, the risk is unnecessary.

Fly: the ATV classes changed the same as bikes.
