2019 Fall OMRA Elections

As most of you are aware, the OMRA is a volunteer led organization.  Our Board of Directors consists of 10 people, and the tenure of the group ranges from 1 or 2 years to 20+.  Not many of us have the time and strength to stay involved for 20 years!  So each year we have openings for new Officers and Directors.

Do you want to be involved in the decisions that shape the OMRA and the future of the sport in Oregon?  Can you invest a few hours per month meeting and talking with like minded off road riders?  If so, then your opportunity is now!

So what does it take to be an Officer?  You need to attend meetings monthly, usually via phone conference but sometimes in person.  We have an annual business meeting in early December.  Different positions have different tasks; these are loosely defined in our Bylaws.  It’s possible to attend the meetings, share your thoughts and opinions, and not do much else.  It’s also possible to become completely immersed in the organization and sport, to the point where you’re working more on OMRA stuff than your paying  job  - which can lead to burnout and flameouts.

So we try and avoid both extremes.  We will best succeed with solid people that care about the sport of motorcycling both today and in the future, like to work as a part of a team, have the ability to compromise for the greater good, and are willing to be engaged and committed to getting things done.

This year we have multiple openings.  See below; these are the positions that are open for nominations:

President - Preside over all meetings, business matters and conduct the normal daily business of the organization.

Secretary - Keep a written record of business transacted at all meetings and handle correspondence as directed by the officers and membership. Secretary shall forward a copy of each meeting’s records to each member of the board.

Membership Director - Facilitate all membership campaigns, growth, programs, maintain rider databases, records, rosters and competitive number assignments.  Coordinate OMRA signups with all members.

Web & Newsletter Editor – NEW POSITION!  Work with Marketing Director to maintain the social media presence for the OMRA (Facebook, Instagram, email communication) to OMRA membership.  Assist Secretary with newsletters as needed.

Land Use/Legislative Director - Shall facilitate all land use and legislative programs, processes, communication, relationships, developments and representation.

Recreation Director -  Work with non competition clubs to promote their events and attract new riders and OMRA members.  Organize the non-competition annual calendar (poker runs, play dates, etc.) and work with clubs to resolve date conflicts.  Attend non-comp events and promote the OMRA and membership.

All of these positions are two year terms.

Referee – 3 positions and one alternate,  1 year terms

What’s in it for you as an OMRA officer?  Mostly the rewards mentioned above; helping support our sport and meeting lots of great people.  Maybe a few free dinners a year at Board meetings, and if you participate in events, in most cases your entry fee is covered.

Most of all, you’re involved at the ground level, you have the inside scoop on off road in our state, and you can be a part of the change you want to see with our sport and riding opportunities.  You can help shape the efforts of the organization, and work with a committed group to maintain and protect the riding and racing opportunities for off road dirt riders.

We’ll be reaching out to key OMRA members this month.  If you’re interested, contact us at the email below:
