Stewardship & Volunteers: Barrett Brown Honored with AMA Outstanding Off-Road Rider Award

The American Motorcyclist Association has recognized Barrett Brown, longtime member of the Oregon Motorcycle Riders Association, with the AMA Outstanding Off-Road Rider Award.

This national award highlights individuals whose work has advanced the motorcycle lifestyle and protected off-highway motorcycling. Barrett’s recognition reflects decades of leadership in trail access, advocacy, and innovation within the off-road community.

Based in North Plains, Oregon, Barrett is a lifelong rider and AMA member who spent 15 years serving as OMRA’s Land Use and Legislative Director, helping lead successful advocacy efforts across Oregon and beyond. His work has shaped policy conversations, protected trail access, and strengthened partnerships between riders, land managers, and agencies.

Barrett is also nationally recognized as the designer and builder of the ST240, a purpose-built single-track trail dozer used to construct and maintain motorcycle and mountain bike trails across the western United States. His company, Single Track LLC, was awarded the 2015 State of the Art Technology Award from American Trails for the ST240’s innovation and impact on sustainable trail building.

In accepting the award, Barrett emphasized the collective nature of the work:

“All of the things this award speaks to have involved many partners, family, and supporters — never alone. From trail building and volunteer coordination to political victories for the off-road community, I accept this on behalf of everyone who made it possible.”

He also spoke to the deeper meaning of off-road riding and racing:

“Off-road riding has meant everything to our family. It’s a shared bond across generations and a framework for growth, respect, and civic engagement. It’s been a humbling honor to work toward extending those benefits to future families.”

OMRA is proud to recognize Barrett Brown’s place among AMA Outstanding Off-Road Rider Award recipients and grateful for the leadership, innovation, and dedication he has brought to the off-road community.
