OMRA is actively monitoring early-stage recreation planning conversations in the North Fort Rock area. This update outlines what’s happening, who’s involved, and what riders should know at this stage.
Races & Events: OMRA Expands Women’s Racing Classes for 2026
OMRA is expanding women’s racing for 2026 with two new classes: AA Women and Women’s 40+. With five women’s classes spanning Beginner through AA, OMRA’s women’s program is built as a full ladder designed to grow with racers at every stage of competition.
Advocacy & Partnerships: Strengthening Trail Stewardship Through NOHVCC
OMRA represented Oregon riders at the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council Annual Conference in Bend, engaging in national conversations on trail sustainability, land use, and collaborative advocacy.
Stewardship & Volunteers: Honoring Trail Leadership with the Lyon Payne Award
OMRA and the State Forests Trust of Oregon are proud to recognize outstanding trail stewardship through the new Lyon Payne Trail Volunteer of the Year Award. Created to honor longtime OMRA member Lyon Payne, the award celebrates volunteers whose behind-the-scenes efforts help keep Oregon’s trails open, safe, and sustainable.
Races & Events: Competition Memberships Eliminated for 2025
Competition memberships are no longer required for OMRA racing in 2025. Riders can show up, race, and earn series points, with a portion of each entry continuing to support OMRA’s advocacy, awards, and trail work.
Land Use Update: OMRA Leads Successful Effort to Keep Christmas Valley Sand Dunes Open
Thanks to a coordinated call to action led by OMRA, the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes will remain open for OHV recreation. Through strong member engagement and partner support, riders successfully spoke up for access and multiple-use public lands — proving that when our community shows up, it makes a real difference.
Land Use Update: Rider Action Needed to Protect Christmas Valley Dunes
Rider action is needed now. The BLM is considering closing the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes to cross-country OHV use, and the public comment period ends Thursday at midnight. OMRA is asking riders to submit a short comment supporting Alternative D, the only option that keeps this historic riding area open. One minute can make the difference.

OMRA mourns the loss of Ellis Cookman, a dedicated racer and cherished member of our community. Known for his kindness, encouragement, and sportsmanship, Ellis embodied the spirit of off-road racing and left a lasting impact on those around him.
Advocacy & Partnerships: How Your Oregon ATV Tag Directly Funds Trails
Your Oregon ATV tag does more than register your bike — it helps fund trail systems, safety programs, and land access statewide. OMRA encourages riders to understand where their dollars go and support continued advocacy by becoming a non-competition member.

Land Use Update: Urgent Action Needed to Protect Trails in Tillamook State Forest
Urgent action is needed to protect trails in the Tillamook State Forest. Logging plans threaten existing trail systems, and the public comment period closes Sunday, May 1. OMRA is urging riders to submit comments now and call for respectful, responsible logging that protects volunteer-built trails.
Races & Events: Women’s Beginner Class Joins the GP & Sprint Enduro Series
The Women’s Beginner class is officially part of the GP and Sprint Enduro series this year. Designed for first-time racers and newer riders, this class offers a shorter, less technical course and a welcoming introduction to OMRA racing.
Land Use Update: Secure the Recreation Trails Program
Help protect OHV trails with a quick email. OMRA is asking riders to contact their U.S. Representative in support of H.R. 5797, a bipartisan bill that ensures Recreation Trails Program funding is returned to the trail systems it comes from. Stewardship & Volunteers: Lyon Payne Honored with 2019 AMA Outstanding Off-Road Rider Award
OMRA member Lyon Payne was recognized by the American Motorcyclist Association with the Outstanding Off-Road Rider Award. The honor places Lyon among a select group of riders nationwide whose volunteerism and stewardship have shaped the future of off-highway motorcycling.
Races & Events: Women’s Expert Class Added to GP Series
OMRA has added a Women’s Expert class to the GP series. The new class will race with the Amateurs for 1.5 hours, with a grace period for number background updates. Women’s Amateur remains unchanged, and XC/SE classes will stay merged for now.
Trail Crew Update: Trail 180 Reroute and Ditch Creek Bridge Project
Trail 180 is being restored following impacts from the 2016 Hosta Timber Sale. With a newly flagged reroute and a replacement Ditch Creek bridge under construction, this project highlights a successful partnership between OMRA, Forestry staff, and volunteers working to maintain critical trail connections.
Stewardship & Volunteers: Barrett Brown Honored with AMA Outstanding Off-Road Rider Award
Longtime OMRA member Barrett Brown has been honored with the AMA Outstanding Off-Road Rider Award. Recognized for his leadership in land use advocacy and as the designer of the ST240 single-track trail dozer, Barrett’s work has shaped trail access and stewardship across the West.
